Middle Curriculum
Middle Curriculum Overview
At our Middle school, we prioritize the integration of the Common Core State Standards to enhance the quality of education. These standards provide a clear and consistent set of learning goals, enabling our students to develop the necessary skills for success in high school and beyond. By explicitly outlining the expected learning outcomes at each grade level, these standards facilitate effective communication between parents, teachers, and students, ensuring that everyone is on the same page. As we embrace the STEAM approach, we remain dedicated to upholding these rigorous standards to foster a well-rounded education. A strong focus is on technology as well. Learning is based on:
- Research and evidence based
- Clear, understandable, and consistent
- Aligned with college and career expectations
- Based on rigorous content and the application of knowledge through higher-order and thinking skills
- Built upon the strengths and lessons of current standards
- Emphasizing critical thinking and class discussions about concepts
Preparing students for global competition
Math: The Common Core curriculum focuses on a clear and specific set of mathematical skills and concepts. Students will progressively develop their understanding of these concepts, not only within a single school year but also as they progress through different grades. The standards actively promote the application of problem-solving strategies to real-world challenges.
English: The Common Core curriculum places a significant emphasis on reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. Students are required to engage with a wide range of texts, including stories, literature, and more complex materials that offer factual information and background knowledge in subjects like science and social studies. By challenging students to refer back to what they have read, the Common Core fosters the development of analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and critical-thinking capabilities that are essential for success in college, career, and life.
Science: The implementation of a three-dimensional teaching approach ensures the provision of top-notch science education, enabling students to cultivate a profound comprehension of the subject matter. Moreover, this approach facilitates the development of essential skills such as communication, collaboration, inquiry, problem-solving, and flexibility. These skills are not only beneficial during students' academic journey but also prove invaluable in their future professional endeavors.
